What is sleep dentistry?
Sleep Dentistry
At Anzac Avenue Dental, we offer sleep dentistry options to help make treatment more comfortable and less stressful for anxious patients or those undergoing more complex procedures.
We offer in-house “Twilight” IV sedation for patients who feel anxious about dental treatment or would like a more relaxed experience. IV sedation can help you feel calm and comfortable while still receiving the dental care you need.
For more complex treatment needs or patients who may not be suitable for in-chair sedation, we also offer treatment under general anaesthetic at a day surgery in Chermside. This allows dental treatment to be completed safely and comfortably in a fully supervised hospital-style setting.

What is IV Sedation?
IV Sedation
At Anzac Avenue Dental, we know that dental treatment can feel overwhelming for some patients. Whether it is due to anxiety, a previous bad experience, a strong gag reflex, or simply not liking the sensations involved in treatment, twilight sedation, also known as IV sedation, can help make your visit feel far more comfortable and manageable. Administered through a small drip in your arm, twilight sedation helps you feel deeply relaxed and sleepy throughout your procedure, with little or no memory of the treatment afterwards.
Twilight sedation/IV sedation is provided in-house at our practice and is administered by a qualified anaesthetist, allowing many patients to receive the care they need in a calm, safe, and closely monitored environment. It is a popular option for patients who want a greater level of relaxation than happy gas or oral sedation, but who may not need treatment under general anaesthetic.
Twilight sedation or IV sedation may be suitable for patients who:
Feel anxious or fearful about dental treatment.
Have had difficult dental experiences in the past.
Have a strong gag reflex.
Find it hard to get numb with local anaesthetic.
Have a needle phobia.
Need more complex or multiple procedures completed more comfortably.
Throughout the procedure, you are carefully monitored to support your safety and comfort at all times. During your consultation, we will discuss your medical history, treatment needs, and whether twilight sedation, or IV sedation, is the most appropriate option for you.
What is General Anaesthetic?
General Anaesthetic
At Anzac Avenue Dental, we understand that some patients need more than just a little extra help to feel comfortable during treatment. For patients with high levels of dental anxiety, more complex treatment needs, or situations where in-chair sedation may not be the most suitable option, we offer dental treatment under general anaesthetic. General anaesthetic means you are fully asleep for the procedure, so you are completely unaware of the treatment while your care is carried out in a carefully monitored setting.
Treatment under general anaesthetic is performed at a day surgery in Chermside, providing a safe and appropriate environment for patients who require a higher level of support. This option can be especially helpful when completing more extensive dental treatment, or for patients who may find it difficult to cope with treatment in the dental chair, even with other forms of sedation.
General anaesthetic may be recommended for patients who:
Experience severe dental anxiety or fear.
Need complex or extensive dental treatment.
Have difficulty tolerating treatment in the chair.
Are not suitable for in-house IV sedation.
Would benefit from having multiple procedures completed in one planned session.
Before recommending general anaesthetic, we will discuss your treatment needs, medical history, and overall suitability during your consultation. Our team will explain the process clearly, answer any questions you may have, and help you understand whether this is the right option for your care.
